Hello folks - I'm a part of a new musicians/artists warehouse in Oakland, and we are looking for some people with solid carpentry skills to lend us a hand building out some of our spaces. We certainly have the energy to build - but not neccesarily the experience to do it safely and well.

We have about 12,000 square feet between 3 units, and really just need some help framing a couple walls (which we should be able to do ourselves safely), but also with construction a few loft/mezzanine spaces, with stairs. We want this done right and safely - but also don't have a whole lot of budget - so trying to keep costs/materials as low as possible...

The building is amazing - several retail storefronts (a cafe/bookstore opening on one side, and a clothing/design/crafts store on the other), 2 performance venues, recording studio and ??? Work-trades are possible too - we have a room or two that could be a living space, as well as access to other projects in the building - we don't have much money, but do have other resources we can share.

Anyway have a hand to help?

  • Where is your warehouse?

An easy way to get lumber is to call up all the people who do demo and dump runs in your area and ask them if they have lumber in good condition from a demo. Seanix himself pulled out literally 3 or 4 dump trucks full of perfectly like-new condition lumber (2x4s, 2x6s, and headers) with lots of screws and nails in it from an office building. All but one pickup truck full went to the dump. :-(
